When you are starting an Amazon business, the first thing you need to know is how much does it cost.
All new Amazon North American selling account allows you to sell products in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Amazon offers two selling plans, Professional or Individual. It should be noted that despite that you are an individual or business seller, you can choose to open either account based on your business needs.
Cost difference between Professional vs. Individual account is specified below:
1. Monthly subscription fee
Professional Seller account only - The cost to maintain a Professional Seller account is $39.99 per month (with selling privilege in Amazon of the US, Canada and Mexico).
2. Single item fee
Individual seller account only - The individual seller account does not have to pay for a monthly subscription fee mentioned above, but have to pay a $0.99 transaction fee per item sold.
3. Marketplace Referral fee
Applying to Both accounts, the Amazon Marketplace Referral Fee is essentially a percentage of your total item price sold on Amazon, varying depending on the product category.
Minimum referral fee is $1.00. For example, if you sell an automotive accessory $5.99, which usually is subjected to a 12% of referral cost, Amazon will keep $1.00 rather than $0.72 (12%) of the total revenue as the referral fee.
In summary, as a qualified Amazon seller, two primary costs are:
* Monthly subscription fee/single items fee (for professional/individual selling account holders)
* andMarketplace referral fee (a certain % of the product-specific selling price).
